The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is the organizer of the tournament. This tournament is different from the women's Africa Cup of Nations. This too is held biennially and organised by CAF but for the women national teams.

AFCON 2024 will be held in Ivory Coast which was originally awarded the 2022 edition but was pushed due to Cameroon taking the slot. However, they later secured the hosting rights and scheduled it for January-February 2024 to avoid a terrible West and Central African rain season which gets intense around June to July.
