He then started pursuing his dream of becoming a football player by moving to play for Nath Boys. Playing for this football academy at Police College Ikeja Lagos made him one step closer to his incredible football career.
At that time, the Nath Boys academy was playing against a Nigerian Premier League team, 3SC Shooting Stars. As a matter of fact, Ndidi was playing in central defence and made an assist that changed the outcome of the game to 1-1. During this football tournament observed by foreign scouts in Nigeria, Ndidi was the only one that was spotted, out of 40 teams and 500 boys.
The Nigerian National Junior and Senior Setup
While at Nathaniel Boys of Lagos, Ndidi was a member of the Nigerian youth setup. During the African U-17 Championship with Nigeria, he was excluded as a precaution along with two other players, after an MRI age test revealed that he was just slightly over the age limit.
Despite that, he came together with his teammates for the U-20 team the next year, becoming a key member of the midfield. Then, on 8 October 2015, he played for the Senior Nigerian national football team against DR Congo. Additionally, a few days later, he played in the 3β0 win against Cameroon, replacing John Obi Mikel in the 63rd minute.
Notable Performance
In 2016, Nigeria selected him for its 35-man provisional Olympic squad. Moreover, Nigeria also named the young athlete to its preliminary 30-man squad for the World Cup in Russia in May of 2018. As a member of Nigeria’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations squad, Ndidi played in their opening match against Burundi.
