AFCON 2023/2024: Our Predictions for the Qualifying Groups
AFCON Group A
Group A of the AFCON consists of the countries Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, and Sao Tome & Principe. After the conclusion of the fifth round, Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau will move on to compete in the AFCON 2023. Sao Tome and Principe did not take home a single victory, and Sierra Leone’s five points were insufficient, hence they were eliminated from the competition.
AFCON Group B
Group B contains Togo, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, and Eswatini. After five matches, both Burkina Faso and Cape Verde are locked with 10 points, meaning that they have already secured their places in the main competition. Both Eswatini and Togo ended with two and five points, respectively, and are slated to play their final qualification match.
AFCON Group C
Namibia is presently in the top place in the group with five points. They are closely followed by Burundi and Cameroon, both tied for one point, and on the final day of qualification, Burundi and Cameroon will play each other in a matchup. After the game, there is a good chance that all three teams will come out tied for first place with five points each and the same goal differential.
AFCON Group D
Guinea, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Malawi make up this group. Egypt and Guinea have already qualified for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Ivory Coast. Both Malawi and Ethiopia presently have four points, and there is still one match left in the competition; therefore, neither team will advance to the next round.
AFCON Group E
Madagascar, the Central African Republic, Ghana, and Angola make up this group. Ghana is currently in the top place in Group E and just one more point to secure their berth in the AFCON 2023. They will play against the Central African Republic on the final day of qualifying, and although only two points separate them, first place and third place are still up for grabs. For our predictions, Ghana and the Central African Republic are the two teams that will advance from Group E.
AFCON Group F
Algeria, Tanzania, Niger, and Uganda are the teams in Group F. Algeria, have already guaranteed their berth by compiling a perfect record of five wins through all of their qualification matches. The current score for Tanzania is seven points, while the score for Uganda is merely four points. On the last day of the campaign, Tanzania will play Algeria, and Uganda will play Niger. The logical inference is that Algeria and Uganda will survive the elimination process.
AFCON Group G
Group G comprises Mali, the Gambia, the Congo, and South Sudan. Mali is now in first place in Group G, with 12 points. The Gambia takes second place with nine points, and they need only one point to guarantee that they will advance. Despite having only six points, Congo has not been eliminated from contention; however, South Sudan will not be competing in the main round due to their lower point total. It is expected that both Mail and Congo will fulfill the conditions necessary to qualify.
AFCON Group H
Ivory Coast, Zambia, Comoros, and Lesotho are the countries that make up AFCON Group H. Ivory Coast and Zambia have already earned their spots in the main tournament. Lesotho was the first team to be eliminated from the competition. Meanwhile, the Comoros will have to settle for coming in third place overall as a result of their performance. Ivory Coast and Zambia qualify.
AFCON Group I
Group I of the AFCON comprises Gabon, Sudan, Mauritania, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Mauritania is now in first place with eight points, followed by Congo Democratic Republic and Gabon, both with seven points. Even though Sudan is now in last place with six points, they still have a shot at moving on to the next round of qualification if they are successful on the final day of matches. At this point, our predictions have Gabon and Mauritania moving on to the next round from Group I.
AFCON Group J
Group J comprises Botswana, Equatorial Guinea, Tunisia, and Libya. Tunisia has already qualified for the tournament. Since then, Equatorial Guinea has climbed to the top of the standings and will qualify alongside Tunisia. Botswana and Libya have only one victory to their names, which means that neither can qualify for the next round. Our predictions for the AFCON indicate that Tunisia and Equatorial Guinea will advance from Group J.
AFCON Group K
This comprises Morocco, South Africa, Liberia, and Zimbabwe. Morocco and South Africa scaled to the next stage of the competition because Liberia was eliminated from group play. On the other hand, South Africa was unable to qualify for the AFCON in either 2021 or 2022. For our prediction, Morocco and South Africa stand out as the nations with the greatest potential to rise from this group.
AFCON Group L
Senegal, Mozambique, Rwanda, and Benin make up this group. Senegal will be competing in the final group of qualifying matches because they won all five matches. After five matches, Mozambique is behind them, with seven points, while Benin is in third place, with five points. Mozambique and Benin will square off in the final encounter of the group stage. Senegal and Rwanda are two countries that we believe will qualify for the tournament.
