The South Koreans won their second-round group with authority with five wins and a draw against Lebanon, Turkmenistan and Sri Lanka. In the third round, Korea finished second, two points behind Iran but well ahead of the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.
Ghana initially finished top of their group in the second round of African Zone qualifiers, level on points with South Africa. Only a better goal average allowed them to see the playoff against Nigeria. The Black Stars eventually eliminated the Super Eagles thanks to an away goal (0-0 then 1-1).

South Korea’s confidence is high. With four losses in their last sixteen games, South Korea are in good form, winning ten games in this streak. They did not play any big names in football, but this has the merit of keeping the Koreans’ hopes of a good World Cup alive.
