AFCON Special Offers

AFCON Betting Odds

The 2024 AFCON odds display the teams likely to win the tournament. Although anything can happen in football, we have a few favourites that can win the AFCON title.

Egypt are seeking their 8th AFCON title and have secured a 2nd-placed finish in two of the last three editions. Cameroon are also AFCON favourites, having won the competition 5 times. Morocco are also flying high following their heroics at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup. Other sides to watch out for include Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Tunisia, and Burkina Faso.

When Will the Africa Cup of Nations Start?

The African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2024) is scheduled for 13th January to 11th February 2024. This AFCON 34th edition will be held in Ivory Coast for the second time since 1984.

What Are the Afcon Qualifiers?

The Afcon qualifiers involve matches played to determine the 24 countries that will qualify for the tournament. Ivory Coast as the host qualifies automatically, while 23 other teams join them via a qualification battle. The qualifiers for AFCON 2024 have already been concluded and the table below shows qualified teams.

How Do Teams Qualify for Afcon?

52 teams entered the qualifying draw including the host country, Ivory Coast. Even though Ivory Coast have an automatic qualification, they played in the group stage to determine the qualification for the other teams in their AFCON group.

There are 5 different pots of teams. The Pots 1 to 4 contained 44 teams and were seeded based on their FIFA world ranking from 23 December 2021. While the 8 teams in Pot 5 had to play a preliminary round of home and away matches. The 4 winning teams advanced to join the other 44 teams in the group stage.

48 teams battled it out for the qualifications in 12 groups during the group stage. They played with the other 3 teams in the group once and then they were ranked according to points. As per usua, it’s 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 for a loss. The first in the group and the runner-up qualified for the final tournament, bringing it to a total of 24 teams.

Africa Cup of Nations 2024 Schedule

The African Cup of Nations 2023/2024 is set to be held in Ivory Coast between January 13 and February 11, 2024. The AFCON fixtures will see 24 teams lock horns against each other, each presenting their best legs.

The 24 countries have been divided into six groups of four each, with host Ivory Coast in Group A. The group stage will begin when Ivory Coast take on Guinea-Bissau on January 13 at 20:00 GMT match time. The group stage will end with Group F games, Tanzania vs DR Congo and Zambia vs Morocco on January 24.

A round of 16 will follow after the group stage, where 16 teams will progress from the group stage. This includes the top 2 in each group and the best four third-placed teams from the six groups. The knockout stage is crucial since it's only one football game per round, and no side can afford to lose.

The quarter-final round will follow after the round of 16 as 8 teams progress. After that, 4 countries will make it to the semifinals and two to the final. The two defeated semi-finalists will fight for a third-placed finish before the final on February 11, 2024.

Both the opening match and final will take place at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan. This is only one of the six stadiums to host the tournament.

AFCON Betting Markets

Nigeria's top sports betting sites provide a series of betting markets for AFCON games. Some betting platforms offer their new customers free bets to place their bets. We discuss below some of the top AFCON betting markets for your prediciton.

Outright Winners

The first betting market you may want to jump on is to make a prediction of which side will win the competition. Most bookmakers already have betting odds for this market, allowing players to place their wagers.

This Outright Winners betting market is a long-term market where players may need to wait until the end of the tournament before cashing out. However, the odds are quite competitive compared to other betting markets, making it more rewarding.

1x2 Market

Like during the AFCON qualifiers, players may also bet on the 1x2 betting market, where they predict the winner of a particular match. For instance, you can predict the winner of Nigeria's first match against Equatorial Guinea.

Players have three options for this market: home win, draw, or away win. You only need to pick what you believe will be the outcome and enter your stake amount. Almost all betting sites will offer this market for all the 52 expected AFCON games.

Over/Under

Another top betting market is the Over/Under market. This market is also known as Totals on some betting platforms. Here, a bettor is expected to make a prediction of the number of goals in a particular game.

Betting platforms usually have a set mark like Over/Under 1.5, Over/Under 2.5, Over/Under 3.5, etc. Betting on Over 2.5 goals means you expect a match to end with 3 goals or more. On the other hand, betting on under 2.5 goals means you expect the game to end with at most 2 goals.

The betting market is quite direct and more straightforward to predict than the 1X2 market because of its two-way possibility. Players don't need to bother about who wins the game but about whether or not the number of goals will be above a certain number.

Both Teams to Score

This is also another top betting market whose odds can be quite competitive. All bettors need is to predict whether both teams will score in a particular game. Most betting sites usually have "Yes" to mean both teams will score and "No" to mean one or both of the sides will not score.

The betting market is also straightforward since you don't need to predict the winner. Once you can predict rightly whether both teams will score or not, you will win your bet.

Double Chance

The Double Chance betting market works for bettors who are unsure whether their favourite team will win the game. Bookmakers give players a chance to choose two options at a time. The options include Home Win/Draw, Home Win/Away Win, and Draw/Away Win.

For instance, the game between South Africa and Tunisia will be challenging for bettors to predict the outcome accurately. As a result, you could bet on South Africa to win or draw the game or Tunisia to win or draw the match. You may also wager on South Africa to win or Tunisia to win with the Home Win/Away Win option.

Top Goalscorer

Another betting market to jump on is the Top scorer betting market. Before the tournament starts, you must predict the player to score the highest number of goals at the AFCON 2024. This betting market is also long-term since you have to wait until the end of the competition to cash out.

Cameroon's Vincent Aboubakar won the highest goalscorer for the 2021 tournament in Cameroon with 8 goals. We expect him to be up there again, this time with the likes of Nigeria's Victor Osimhen, Egypt's Mohamed Salah, and Senegal's Sadio Mane.

Player of the Tournament

Like the Top Scorer betting market, some betting sites also allow players to bet on the player of the tournament. Sadio Mane won the MVP award at the 2021 edition and will be up again if he can lead Senegal to another final. The Player of the Tournament market is like the AFCON top scorers market, where you need to wait until the end of the competition to cash out.

AFCON Betting Tips

We encourage players to check the following betting tips before placing their 2024 AFCON betting.

Watch Out Past Winners

Experience matters a lot when it comes to the Africa Cup of Nations. This is why only 15 teams have won it before from the possible 54 African countries eligible for the competition. We recommend that players watch out for the likes of Egypt, who have 7 titles; Cameroon, with 5 titles; Ghana, with 4 titles; and Nigeria, with 3 titles.

Check Recent Results

A team may sometimes be living in past glory. So, it is not enough to wager on past winners but also to check if they have excellent recent results. Senegal have been playing well of late, getting to the 2022 FIFA World Cup round of 16 after winning AFCON 2021. Morocco also shined at the 2022 World Cup, reaching the semifinals.

Check Team Squad

Another tip before making your AFCON predictions is to check their team squad. All head coaches will release their squads before the competition, consisting of the best legs. Ensure the team you are backing to win the trophy has the crucial African players to help them win the tournament.

Watch Out for the Underdogs

The underdogs could sometimes pull some strings in this competition. For instance, Burkina Faso have secured 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishes in the last four editions they've participated. Also, to everyone's surprise, Zambia won the trophy in 2012 following a penalty shootout win over Ivory Coast. Equatorial Guinea and South Africa are some underdogs to also watch out for.

Top Teams for The AFCON 2024

The African Cup of Nations is contested only by the top teams in the continent. As a result, we expect all teams to be on top of their game. However, some countries are favourites in the tournament thanks to their recent form and top players.

Egypt boast of Mohamed Salah and Mohamed Elneny, while Senegal can rely on Sadio Mane and Ismaïla Sarr. Nigeria have Victor Osimhen and Kelechi Iheanacho to lead them, while Ghana will need Mohammed Kudus and Thomas Partey to be in top form this time around.

Morocco also have Achraf Hakimi, Romain Saïss, and Hakim Ziyech. Host Côte d'Ivoire also have reputable African players like Wilfried Zaha and Sébastien Haller.
