Career: Eight defining years at Leicester

Ndidi rose through Belgian football before establishing himself as a Premier League force with Leicester City.

From Genk to the Premier League

Ndidi began his European career at Genk in Belgium, where he made his name as a teenager, before Leicester City signed him in January 2017. He slotted straight into the reigning champions’ midfield, filling the role vacated by N’Golo Kanté and quickly becoming one of the division’s best defensive midfielders.

Over eight and a half years at Leicester he made more than 300 appearances, winning the FA Cup in 2021 and gaining promotion back to the Premier League, through the club’s highs and multiple relegations.

Turkey, Portugal and a new chapter

After leaving Leicester in 2025, Ndidi joined Turkish giants Beşiktaş, before moving on loan to John Obi Mikel‘s former stomping ground of elite European football with FC Porto in January 2026. The move was aimed at reviving his career at a Champions League club.

Inheriting the defensive-midfield mantle once held for Nigeria by Mikel, Ndidi has remained a key figure and captain for the Super Eagles even as his club career entered a more nomadic phase.
