Mohamed Salah has committed his immediate future to Liverpool but admits that a potential move to Saudi Arabia was indeed under serious consideration. The Egyptian forward extended his contract at Anfield back in April, despite a tempting offer from Al-Ittihad.

Speaking to the Egyptian channel ON Sports, Salah revealed, “My contract was nearing its end, and I thought: this is an interesting opportunity. We had in-depth discussions with Saudi Arabia, but in the end, I finalised the deal with Liverpool.”

The star attacker emphasised that he still maintains good relations with the Saudi club. Salah is set to stay at Liverpool for the next two years but hasn’t ruled out a future move to the Middle East. “I can’t predict what happens afterwards,” admitted the player. “For now, I’m happy here.”

Al-Ittihad was eager to add Salah to their side, hoping to create a marquee clash in the Saudi Pro League with Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently celebrated his 40th birthday as a player for Al-Nassr. Salah, who turns 33 this June, also envisions a prolonged career in football. “I believe I can play until I’m 39 or 40, just like Ronaldo,” he mentioned.

“But if I feel it’s time to stop earlier, I will. I’ve already achieved a lot.” The Premier League’s top scorer this season has previously claimed two Premier League titles and the Champions League with Liverpool. Additionally, he has been crowned top scorer in the English top flight on three separate occasions.
