The transfer window is heating up, as Christantus Uche is now attracting serious interest from two more Premier League giants, Aston Villa and Newcastle United. This comes after earlier reports linking the Getafe star with a move to Sunderland. It currently makes Uche one of the most sought-after Nigerian talents in Europe this summer.

Uche’s rise in La Liga has not gone unnoticed. After a breakout season with Getafe, where he showcased his versatility and energy in midfield, scouts from England have been closely monitoring his progress. While Sunderland were among the first English clubs to express interest, the entry of Aston Villa and Newcastle United into the race signals a new level of competition for his signature.

Both Villa and Newcastle are reportedly keen on bolstering their midfield options. Uche’s blend of defensive grit and attacking flair fits the bill perfectly for both sides. Getafe’s president, Ángel Torres, recently confirmed that the player is eager for a move to the Premier League. Despite having offers from Serie A and other European leagues.

Uche’s performances in the 2024/25 La Liga season have been nothing short of impressive. In 33 appearances, he scored four goals and provided six assists. Uche also managed 192 tackles and 23 shots on target. These numbers highlight his all-action style. He contributes both defensively and offensively, something which EPL clubs see great value in.

Uche’s club form earned him a call-up to the Super Eagles. He made his senior debut at the 2025 Unity Cup in London. Despite visa issues delaying his arrival, he came off the bench in the final against Jamaica. He even scored the decisive penalty in the shootout, helping Nigeria lift the trophy. His composure under pressure and immediate impact have further boosted his reputation at home and abroad.

With a reported release clause of €25 million, Getafe are bracing themselves for offers. The club’s president has admitted that Uche’s future is likely in England, and negotiations are expected to intensify in the coming weeks.
