Victor Boniface’s anticipated transfer to Al Nassr, valued at approximately €60 million, did not materialize, but the Nigerian striker’s future at Bayer Leverkusen remains promising. The deal, which included a medical examination, collapsed when Al Nassr signed Aston Villa’s Jhon Durán for €77 million. Boniface stays with Leverkusen, poised to drive their ambitions. This was, of course, met with as much delight by fans and the club’s management.

Interest from Al Nassr gained traction in January 2025, with a verbal agreement reportedly reached. Victor Boniface, excused from Leverkusen’s training before a Champions League match, was set to join Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia. The proposed deal offered a €15 million net annual salary, underscoring his rising value.

Despite the advanced talks, Al Nassr’s pivot to Durán kept Boniface at Leverkusen. Bayer’s sporting director, Simon Rolfes, confirmed the transfer is off, ensuring the striker’s focus remains with the club. Boniface responded positively, stating, “It’s flattering when big clubs show interest, but my focus is 100% on Bayer Leverkusen”. His commitment boosts Leverkusen’s squad, especially alongside other Nigerian talents attracting European interest lately.

Boniface’s on-field impact is undeniable. The 24-year-old has scored eight goals in 19 appearances this season, building on his 14 goals in 23 league games during Leverkusen’s 2023/24 Bundesliga title win. His dynamic play and goal-scoring prowess make him a vital asset as Leverkusen competes in the Bundesliga and Champions League.

The collapsed transfer highlights Boniface’s growing reputation. Al Nassr’s €60 million offer reflects his market value, and at 24, he remains a prime target for top clubs. For now, Boniface is focused on Leverkusen’s goals, saying, “My mind is on helping the team succeed”. This commitment aligns with Leverkusen’s ambitions, as manager Xabi Alonso continues to build a competitive squad.
