Thai League 1: Week 4 Preview & Predictions

Published on

With three weeks completed in Thai League 1, it’s slowly becoming clear which teams will be competing for the title this year.

Buriram United have started off looking like the top team in the competition once again, as they look to win their third championship in a row. Port FC have also come out of the gate strong, winning all three of their matches after their third place finish last season.

Arguably the biggest surprise so far has been Bangkok United who were runners-up last season but have only managed four points through three games this time around. After losing to Buriram in Week 2, they ended in a 0-0 draw against Uthai Thani in their third match and currently sit in the 8th position.

Week 4 could be pivotal for many teams as they try and build momentum into the season. Find below previews and predictions for some of the important matchups this week.

Port FC Vs Sukhothai (August 27)

Undefeated Port FC will go up against Sukhothai at the Port Authority of Thailand Stadium today in what’s expected to be an exciting battle. Teerasak Poeiphimai has had a great beginning his season with Port FC, scoring three goals in his first three weeks.

Sukhothai have also had a solid start to their 2024/25 campaign, with one win, one draw and one loss in their first three matches.

Based on their last head-to-head matchups, Port FC will go in as favourites having won 9 of their last 13 meetings. It should be noted however that Sukhothai beat Port 2-1 in an encounter in 2023 which could still be in the back of the team’s mind.

Lamphun Warriors Vs Nongbua Pitchaya (August 27)

The Lahum Warriors got off to a terrific start to the season in their opener, beating Uthai Thani 1-0 but have since not been able to replicate the effort. After losing to Muangthong United in Week 2, they could only manage a 1-1 draw against Nakhon Ratchasima in Week 3.

Nongbua Pitchaya were promoted to Thai League 1 this season and have competed hard but do not have the result to show for it. They were dominated in their first two matches, losing by the score of 4-0 to both Buriram United and Prachuap. They did however score a big victory against Nakhon Pathom in Week 3 which they will be looking to build momentum off.

The Warriors should still be able to come out on top in this fixture, likely by multiple goals.

Nakhon Pathom Vs Bangkok United (August 29)

Bangkok United will be desperate to get their title hopes back on track with a win in Week 4. They will be facing off against a Nakhon Pathom team which has won only one of their first three matches, suffering losses to two teams at the bottom of the table.

The last meeting between the two teams ended in a 2-1 victory for Bangkok United earlier this year. There has only been one other match between the two teams, which was a 1-1 draw back in 2023.

You can expect Bangkok United to come out all guns blazing in an attempt to get the momentum back on their side this season. It wouldn’t be surprising if this match ended in a big blowout in favor of Bangkok if they find their groove early on.

Buriram United Vs Khon Kaen United (August 29)

The unstoppable force which is Buriram United will take on Khon Kaen United at the Khon Kaen Provincial Stadium on Thursday. Buriram is in the top position in the league at the moment, while Khon Kaen United currently sit in last place with just a single draw to their name in three matches.

Buriram should make short work of their opponents with both Guilherme Bissoli & Lucas Crispim in great form to begin the season. The only factor Khon Kaen United have going for them is that they will have home field advantage.
