Matchday 9 of the Thai League 1 2024/25 season features a number of interesting matchups which could make changes the standings this week. First place Buriram United will not be playing for a second consecutive week but are still not at risk of losing their top position with 18 points. Port FC and Bangkok United follow with 15 points each having played one extra match.
Below you can find previews of the key matchups from this week which include predictions of who we think will come out on top.
Chiangrai United Vs Lamphun Warrior (October 4)
Opening the week will be Chiangrai United vs Lamphun Warrior on Friday, October 4 at the Singha Chiangrai Stadium. Chiangrai United are coming off yet another disappointing loss, after being defeated by Uthai Thani 3-0 last week. Lamphun, on the other hand, had a big win 4-1 against Rayong last Sunday to push them up the standings to 8th place.
These two teams seem to be going in opposite directions as of late. Chiangrai United have only won one game this season in their opener against Khon Kaen United. Lamphun has won 2 out of their last three games and looked significantly better even in their loss against Ratchaburi FC.
Based on the head-to-head also, Lamphun hold the upper hand with 2 wins in their last 4 matches to go with 2 draws. Expect Lamphun to be victorious once again in what could be a dominant performance by them.
Prachuap Vs BG Pathum United (October 5)
Prachuap were able to rebound from a 6-0 thumping by Buriram United to draw 0-0 with second place Port FC last week. The team has three wins, two losses and three losses through eight matchdays of the season. BG Pathum United enjoyed a bye last week but were coming off a huge 2-1 win against Port FC the week before. Sitting on 4th place in the standings, BG Pathum has the chance to jump into the top 3 this week with a win against Prachuap.
There is a lot of history between these two teams, with the head-to-head very much in favor of BG Pathum United. BG Pathum have won three of their last six meetings, while the other three have ended in draws. It should be noted that Prachuap has been able to secure ties in their last two meetings which include a 1-1 draw in February of this year.
Our prediction for this matchup is that BG Pathum will win a close contest which will likely be low scoring.
Nong Bua Pitchaya Vs Bangkok United (October 6)
After a bad start, Bangkok United seem to have reignited their season with three wins and two draws in their last five matches. Their latest draw against Ratchaburi FC last week however was rather disappointing, after getting outplayed for much of the game. They will try to get back to their winning ways against Nong Bua Pitchaya who have only managed the two wins so far this season.
Surprisingly, the five games between the teams have been an even split so far, as both teams have won 2 matches with one ending in a draw. The last time they played each other was in early 2023, when Bangkok United won 3-1.
Based on current form, Bangkok United have a big edge in this upcoming match which should translate to an easy win.
Port FC Vs Nakhon Pathom (October 6)
Second place Port FC had an uncharacteristic draw against Prachuap last week which set them back in their quest to chase down Buriram United. They will be desperate to score a win against one of the bottom teams in Nakhon Pathom this week. Nakhon Pathom are placed 14th in the league at the moment with just 1 win and 1 draw to their name.
This match is expected to be a blowout in favor of Port FC who have dominated the head-to-head in recent years. The last match between the two teams ended in a commanding 6-0 victory for Port FC in May this year.
