Matchday 6 of Thai League 1 2024/25 is set to take place this week, featuring all 16 teams of the tournament. Arguably the most exciting matchup of the week is between the two top placed teams in the League; Buriram United and Port FC. Both teams have been undefeated through five matches and look like the teams to beat this season. While early, whoever comes out on top in this fixture could play a large role in determining the overall winner of the championship.
Another key contest to keep an eye on is the match between Bangkok United and Nakhon Ratchasima. Last year’s runners-up, Bangkok United, got off to a poor start but have since won their last two games to find themselves in third place in the table. Nakhon Ratchasima have managed to win two matches and draw their other three to take the fifth spot just under BG Pathum United.
Let’s take a closer look at some key matchups for Matchday 6 which include predictions of how we think each matchup will go.
Buriram United Vs Port FC (September 12)
The big match between Buriram United and Port FC will take place on Thursday, September 12th at Port Authority of Thailand Stadium in Bangkok. Defending champions Buriram have won all five of their matches thus far through the season and have looked on pace to repeat this season. Port FC aren’t far behind however, winning four of their five games and tying against Ratchaburi last week.
This encounter will feature many of the top goal scorers in the tournament this season, including Guilherme Bissoli (Buriram United) who leads the league with 5 goals. Teerasak Poeiphimai and Bordin Phala aren’t far behind with four goals apiece for Port FC.
Based on recent history, Buriram United have a slight edge against Port FC, winning two of their last three matches. It should be noted though that Port FC gave Buriram one of their worst losses in December of last year, dominating them 4-1 at home.
Our prediction for this match is a high scoring game where Buriram United come out as victors
Bangkok United Vs Nakhon Ratchasima (September 14)
Bangkok United began their season with a win, a draw and a loss in their first three games, falling to the middle of the championship table. They have since been able to string together two wins in a row against Nakhon Pathom United and Lamphun Warrior FC to catch back up to 3rd place. Nakhon Ratchasima have taken a different path, relying on their consistency and solid defense to secure them three draws and two wins.
In their head-to-head, Bangkok United have had success against Nakhon Ratchasima in the recent past, winning their last three encounters without conceding a single goal. Nakhon Ratchasima however have made a number of changes to their team in the offseason which may see a closer contest this time around.
We predict a close game which could end either as a draw or a hard-earned win for Bangkok United.
BG Pathum United Vs Nong Bua Pitchaya (September 14)
While BG Pathum United have been inconsistent to start the season, they still find themselves in 4th position on the leaderboard with three wins and two losses. Nong Bua Pitchaya have had a rough start to their campaign, sitting in the bottom half of the table in 12th place after only one win in their first five games.
Much of BG Pathum United’s success can be attributed to Chanathip Songkrasin who leads the league in assists. He has been able to control the ball in the midfield and get his teammates involved when his team hasn’t been looking their best.
In the past, these two teams have been quite evenly matched, with Nong Bua Pitchaya winning three of the last six matchups while BG Pathum United have won two. It seems that BG Pathum have been playing the more inspired football this season which gives them the advantage in our opinion. Expect another close game which goes the way of BG Pathum United.
