Manchester United is planning a major midfield overhaul after parting ways with Casemiro. The club is actively scouting new central midfielders, with Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson emerging as a top target despite fierce competition from Manchester City. Additionally, the Red Devils are exploring alternative options to reinforce the squad, including Atalanta’s Ederson and West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes.
However, efforts are not limited to bolstering the midfield. According to Gaston Edul, Manchester United is preparing a proposal for Cristian Romero, who currently plays for Tottenham Hotspur. While the report did not reveal a specific figure, the English powerhouse appears determined to make the transfer happen. Additionally, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are also tracking the center-back.
Previous reports have indicated that Tottenham values its defender at around €60 million. Romero’s contract with the London-based club extends until the summer of 2029. Over the years, the Argentine has established himself as one of the Premier League’s toughest and most uncompromising centre-backs. Robust tackles, exceptional game-reading ability, and an impressive success rate in aerial duels mark his defensive style.
In 2022, Romero achieved the pinnacle of football success by winning the World Cup with the Argentinian national team. Before that, he transitioned to Tottenham from Atalanta, quickly establishing himself as a key figure within the squad. Last season, the 28-year-old defender took part in 32 matches, contributing with six goals and four assists.
