Jose Mourinho is reportedly on the verge of a dramatic return to Real Madrid. Discussions between president Florentino Perez and the 63-year-old manager are nearing a conclusion, with Mourinho poised to replace Alvaro Arbeloa.

The board strongly believes the Portuguese coach, who previously led Los Blancos from 2010 to 2013, can guide the club back to the absolute top of European football.

Ahead of his second tenure, Mourinho is already planning a blockbuster squad shake-up. According to Football Insider, the manager expects significant influence over transfer strategy and has already identified his top summer target: Manchester City’s midfield maestro, Rodri.

The 29-year-old Spanish international is a long-term target for Madrid. Rodri has been a cornerstone for City since his €70 million move from Atletico Madrid in 2019, racking up 297 appearances, 28 goals, and 32 assists.

Real Madrid hopes to secure the world-class midfielder for around €65 million. However, a summer deal depends on whether they can intercept Manchester City’s current efforts to extend Rodri’s contract beyond 2027.

Striking a deal for the premier midfielder would mark a massive statement for Mourinho’s new era.
