📜 History of Samuel Chukwueze
Samuel Chukwueze was born in Amaokwe Ugba Ibeku, Umuahia, Abia state. He started playing football at the age of 8. He briefly trained with New Generation Academy and later joined Diamond Football academy in 2012.
At the Diamond Academy, he took part in the 2013 Portuguese Youth Iber Cup tournament, which they won, with Chukwueze being the highest goal scorer. Due to his prolific scoring abilities, he earned a spot in the Nigerian squad, which won the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2015 in Chile. This attracted a lot of interest from a number of European teams, including some premier league teams.
Chukwueze was signed to the Villarreal CF’s youth team playing in the Segunda Division B in 2017 and played with the team till the 2018/2019 season. Chukwueze played for Nigeria at the under-17 level at the FIFA U-17 world cup 2015 and received an award of the Most Valuable Player at the tournament. After this, he received his first call-up to the senior team in October 2018. He made his first debut for the Nigerian senior team on 20 November, in a friendly match against Uganda that ended in a goalless draw.
Chukwueze was called up to the Nigerian senior squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in May 2019 as well as the Nigerian under-20 team for the under-20 World Cup. He could only participate in one of the events. So, he chose the Africa Cup of Nations, which was held in Egypt. Due to the injury, he missed the Europa League final victory over Manchester United. He underwent surgery successfully on 31 May. But due to the injury, he has so far missed Villarreal’s opening matches in La Liga, a 0-0 draw against Granda, a 0-0 draw against Espanyol, and a 2-2 draw against Atletico Madrid.
