Paul Onuachu was born on 28 May 1994 in the city of Owerri, Imo State in Nigeria. He started his professional career with Nigeria’s 3rd division league with FC Ebedei in Ogun State. In 2012, Paul Onuachu was awarded a scholarship through the Danish affiliate club of his local club. The scholarship secured Paul a place in the Danish club FC Midtjylland where he started as a forward player in the Danish SuperLiga.
🇳🇬 Paul Onuachu Career In Nigeria
Paul Onuachu’s playing career started in his country, Nigeria, as he played with Nigeria’s 3rd division league with FC Ebedei in Ogun State before he secured a scholarship with the Danish affiliate of his club. His performances with the club attracted the attention of the Nigerian under-23 team. Shortly, he received a call to duty for his country and participated in his first national team in the AFCON 2019 tournament.
Onuachu’s first official match for the country’s senior team was against Seychelles. Even though he didn’t score, his movement on the ball and dribbling skills caught the eyes of the National team coach Gernot Rohr who chose him to play in a friendly match against Egypt.
Paul Onuachu played his next international match against Egypt and scored his first international goal, thus setting an unprecedented record for the country against Egypt in the AFCON 2019 qualifier match. This goal termed “the fastest goal” scored by a Nigerian in an international game contributed to Nigeria’s qualification for the AFCON also earned Paul a place on Coach Gernot Rohr’s list.
Paul also played in the AFCON tournament, where the national team secured the third position after defeating Tunisia, bringing home the bronze medal.
Recently, Paul played a friendly match on the national team against Cameroon on the 4th and 8th of June, 2021.
🌐 Paul Onuachu International Career
In 2012 Paul joined FC Midtjylland. He performed so well at his first match that he was selected to play his first league match in December of that same year. He then went on to sign a 3-year contract in 2013, which was worth £100,000, and upon its renewal in 2015 doubled to £200,000.
His performance at FC Midtjylland got inquiries from other clubs, and he was loaned to play for them. Paul played for Jutland club and Vejle club where he played a total of 13 matches and scored 5 goals.
Paul Onuachu went back to FC Midtjylland in the 2015/2016 season, where he went on to play some exciting matches and scoring in a lot of them. In the space of 6 years, he played a total of 181 games and scored 74 goals for FC Midtjylland, thus achieving great feats and rising in his football career. Shortly, Paul won the Danish SuperLiga title and the Danish Super Cup with the club. This made him a target for the Belgian club outfit KRC Genk.
In the summer of 2019, Paul completed a transfer to the Belgian professional football league giants KRC Genk for €6 million. In his first season with Genk, Paul made an impressionable start and went on to play a total of 29 matches and scored 10 goals for the club. Currently, Paul who is worth €22 million, has bagged a prestigious award as the top scorer of the Jupiler professional league in Belgium after scoring 33 goals in the just concluded 2020/2021 season. In addition, he was named Belgium Professional League Player of the Year in the same season.
