🌐 Ademola Lookman’s International Career
Charlton Athletic and Early Career (2014 – 2017)
Lookman started his playing career in 2014, playing as a striker for Waterloo, a football club based in London. After playing trials, he moved to the Charlton Athletic FC Academy and played in the under-18 team. He had a prolific goalscoring record at Charlton; therefore, he was promoted from the under-18 to the under-21 within a year and made the first team debut on the 3rd of November 2015. He scored his debut goal for the senior team two days later in a 3-2 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion. His outstanding performance continued when he scored a brace 10 days later in a 2-2 draw with the Bolton Wanderers.
His speed and movement both on and off the ball were quite impressive, and he started attracting the attention of scouts of the top flight teams of English football. This paved the way for his 2017 transfer to Everton.
Everton (2017 – 2018)
On the 5th of January 2017, Lookman moved to Everton for an initial fee of pounds7.5 million and reportedly up to pounds11 million inclusive of bonuses and add-ons. He played his first match when he came on as a 90-minute substitute for Ross Barkley in a home match against Manchester City. He went on to reward the faith in him by scoring the final goal in a 4-0 thrashing of the visitors at Goodison Park.
During his time at Everton, Lookman lacked regular playing time, and he started looking to move clubs. The club leadership originally arranged a season-long loan move to Derby County, where he could get regular first team football. However, Lookman had other plans and insisted on a move to the German outfit RB Leipzig. The deal was supposed to keep him till the 2019/2019 season.
Lookman joined RB Leipzig in on a loan term first. He enjoyed a great start to his spell as he came on as a late substitute to score the winning goal in a league match against Borussia Monchengladbach. He went on to score 5 goals in 11 matches that same season.
On 25 July 2019, RB Leipzig secured the services of Lookman n a permanent basis in a five-year contract. He has been on loan 2 times, to Fulham and Leicester.
Lookman joined the English side Fulham FC on their return to the Premier League on a season-long loan on 3rd November 2020. He scored 4 goals in 34 appearances for the club. Unfortunately, even his performance couldn’t help the club stay at the top flight of English football, and the team was relegated at the end of the season. Lookman returned to RB Leipzig at the end of the season.
At the start of the 2021/2022 season, RB Leipzig loaned out Lookman to the Premier League side Leicester City F to get regular playing time. He came in on the last day of the summer transfer period, 31st August 2021. He made his debut in a 1-0 loss to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, coming in as a substitute in the 73rd minute.
