The Men’s Olympic Football Tournament kicks off Wednesday, 24 July with eight matches. The sixteen qualified teams will play between seven different stadiums, with the gold medal match set to take place on August 9 at the Parc des Princes.
The tournament format consists of four groups containing four teams. Each team will play each other team in their group in a round-robin format. The top two teams based on points will then advance to the knockout stages from each group. In case of a tie, the winner of the head-to-head matchup will go through.
Each of the 16 countries have already confirmed their 18-man squads ahead of the tournament. Summer Games rules allow only three players over the age of 23 to be selected per a team.
This edition of the Summer Games will crown a new champion, as 2020 champions Brazil will not be participating in this year’s tournament.
Favourites include hosts France, two-time champs Argentina and Spain who just claimed the EURO 2024 championship in Germany.
