André Onana is finding himself in a storm of criticism. The former Ajax goalkeeper will no longer represent Manchester United next season but has instead joined Trabzonspor. To make matters worse, his national team, Cameroon, failed to secure direct qualification for the World Cup on Tuesday.

Onana had a prominent, albeit contentious, role in the game. Following errors in midfield, he made life incredibly easy for Cape Verde’s striker. On X, viewers were left stunned and began speculating whether this could be tied to matchfixing.

After Cameroon lost possession in midfield and their defenders struggled to intervene, Livramento, a former player of Roda JC and MVV, found himself with an open path to Onana’s goal.

Surprisingly, the ex-Ajax star remained rooted to his position, giving the Cape Verde forward all the space needed to score. This victory ensured Cape Verde’s place at the World Cup, while Cameroon faces two more crucial qualifying matches.

Fans on X couldn’t believe what they had witnessed. “How does Onana keep justifying these performances?” one viewer questioned after watching the Cape Verde goal. “He can’t seriously be a professional goalkeeper!” Another remarked, “This must be the end of his career…”

“The match is long over, yet he’s still glued to the goal line,” another fan jested. Others were more suspicious, with some alleging darker motives: “This has nothing to do with goalkeeping. There’s only one plausible explanation: matchfixing.”

“If he is not examined in the next few days, I won’t know what to do anymore,” he stated.
