Chelsea beginnings and Italian schooling
A product of Chelsea’s Cobham academy, Aina won a haul of youth honours but found first-team chances scarce. Loans to Hull City and Torino gave him senior football, and in 2019 Torino made the move permanent.
Serie A proved the making of him. Aina made over 100 appearances for Torino, refining his defending under Ivan Jurić, either side of a 2020-21 loan at Fulham where he managed two goals in 31 Premier League games. Italy turned a raw talent into a complete full-back.
Reinvention at Nottingham Forest
Released by Torino, Aina joined Nottingham Forest on a free transfer in 2023 and quickly became a regular. He was central to Forest’s surprise seventh-place finish in 2024-25 that ended the club’s near-30-year wait for European football.
Rewarded with a contract to 2028, Aina hit new heights in 2025-26, matching earlier goal tallies before injury intervened. Alongside captain William Troost-Ekong, he has been one of Nigeria’s defensive leaders in recent years.

Super Eagles: A three-time AFCON defender
Aina represented England up to under-20 level before switching allegiance to Nigeria in 2017. He was part of the squad at the 2018 World Cup and has since become a long-serving international with more than 45 caps.
