Newcastle United are setting their sights on one of the Belgian Pro League’s most exciting talents, as reports intensify linking Nigerian striker Toluwalase Arokodare with a summer move to St. James’ Park. The 24-year-old forward, currently enjoying a breakout season at KRC Genk, has emerged as a top target for the Magpies as they look to reinforce their attacking options ahead of a return to European football.

Arokodare’s rise has been nothing short of remarkable. Since joining Genk from the French side Amiens SC in January 2023, the Lagos-born striker has established himself as a pivotal figure in Genk’s frontline. This season, he has been in sensational form, notching 20 goals and providing five assists in 38 appearances across all competitions, including 17 goals in 30 league matches. His average of 0.67 goals per 90 minutes places him among the elite strikers in the Belgian top flight, and he currently leads Genk’s scoring charts.

The Nigerian international’s performances have not gone unnoticed. Newcastle’s latest interest is said to be driven by their need for a reliable goalscorer, especially with uncertainty surrounding the future of veteran striker Callum Wilson. The Magpies, who are pushing for European qualification, see Arokodare as an ideal addition to add depth and competition alongside Alexander Isak. According to sources, Newcastle have already established contact with Genk, who are reportedly demanding around €17 million for their prized asset.

Arokodare’s style of play—marked by his physical presence, intelligent movement, and clinical finishing—has drawn comparisons to some of Nigeria’s top forwards, like Victor Boniface and even Osimhen. His ability to score both at home and away, coupled with a knack for delivering in crucial moments, has made him a standout performer in Belgium this term. His breakout campaign has also earned him a maiden call-up to Nigeria’s senior national team, further cementing his status as one of Africa’s rising stars.

With interest from other European clubs also mounting, Newcastle may need to move swiftly if they hope to secure Arokodare’s signature. For the Magpies, landing the prolific Nigerian could prove a shrewd piece of business as they aim to build a squad capable of challenging on multiple fronts next season.
