Barcelona is on the verge of completing the signing of Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao. The Catalan club has pursued the winger for quite some time, extending back to months of negotiations and even last summer. Now, it appears the deal is finally set to take place. Meanwhile, Joan Laporta is already eyeing an even bigger move for a new striker.
However, acquiring Nico Williams is expected to have a notable effect on Barcelona’s current squad. Reports from “El Nacional” suggest that one player’s position will be impacted due to this arrival. The publication claims that Hansi Flick understands the implications of the transfer, as Williams is set to take over Dani Olmo’s spot in the team. The attacking lineup is projected to take the following shape: left wing – Nico Williams, central striker – Robert Lewandowski, right wing – Lamine Yamal, and attacking midfielder – Raphinha. Speculation about Olmo seeking a move to a new club has already been circulating for some time.
Last season, Nico Williams participated in a total of 45 matches, during which he managed to score 11 goals and provide seven assists. Currently, the Spanish national team player is valued by the “Transfermarkt” platform at 70 million euros, while his release clause with Athletic Bilbao is set at approximately 60 million euros.
