English Premier League: Arsenal Destroy Sheffield United 6-0

Arsenal were able to cruise past Sheffield United on Monday, notching their seventh consecutive Premier League victory. Arsenal moved up to 61 points after 27 matches, sitting two points behind league leaders, Liverpool and one point behind Man City.

The 6-0 win came with five first half goals which put the match well out of reach early. In fact, Arsenal were 3-0 up inside 13 minutes against the league’s bottom most side. There was no show of resistance by Sheffield as the team looked almost resigned to their fate.

There were five different scorers for Arsenal; Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Ben White and an own goal from Jayden Bogle.

The first goal came after just five minutes. The midfield was able to carve open the Sheffield defense before they found Odegaard from 10 yards out to open the scoring. The lead was doubled in the 13th minute when Bukayo Saka crossed one in low which was deflected into his own net by Bogle.

Up 2-0 the game already looked out of hand just 13 minutes in. It only took another two minutes for Arsenal to score yet again as Martinelli fired one in from deep via a deflection. At this point the match was all but over and it was more about how many goals Arsenal would have by the end of 90 minutes.

Fans started to exit Bramall Lane before the half with nothing much to cheer for from their home team. Havertz made it 4-0 with a clean tuck into the bottom corner following a Martinelli ball through.

The last of the Arsenal goals in the first half came from Rice finishing low past keeper Ivo Grbic in the 39th to add insult to injury. One more goal was added in the second half by Ben White to round out the score at 6-0.

With the win, Arsenal became the first English league side to win three consecutive away games by a margin of five or more goals. They stay within striking distance of the top 2, where any slip up could lead to taking the top place.

Liverpool was able to keep their lead with a last-gasp win against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. The win didn’t look very impressive, mainly due to a series of injuries which have left the team without many of their stars.

Manchester City also had a derby victory on Sunday, coming back to beat Man United 3-1. City seem like the biggest competition for the League title at the moment for Arsenal. With Haaland back and firing on all cylinders, the team looks in top form going into the backend of league fixtures.

Sheffield United seem doomed to relegation with only 13 points and three wins this whole season. They have lost four consecutive home games in call competitions while conceding five or more goals. Burnley and Luton Town are the two other teams currently on the chopping block.

Man City Comeback To Beat United, 3-1

Manchester City were able to come from behind to defeat Manchester United 3-1 on Sunday in the Manchester Derby. They keep up with Liverpool in the English Premier League title race, down only one point with each team playing 27 games so far.

Rashford gave United the lead in the first half when he blasted a long-range shot from around 30 yards out which deflected in off the crossbar.

Phil Foden however was able to pull the match back for City in the second half, scoring twice. The first one came from a brilliant strike from outside the box which beat the United keeper up top. The second was a tidy finish from a very tight angle to put CIty into the lead.

The big game between City and Liverpool is coming up on the 10th of March. If CIty is able to pull off a win, they will take the lead in the Premier League race. Given that Liverpool is riddled with injuries at the moment, City will be favorites going in. It should be noted however that Liverpool will have home field advantage.
