Leo Messi is currently under contract with Inter Miami until December 31, 2025. This has led to rising speculations in the media regarding the Argentine star’s future. According to reports from DIRECTV Sports, Messi’s ultimate goal is to make a comeback to FC Barcelona, as he wishes to end his career at the newly renovated Camp Nou.
A transfer could potentially take place in the summer, contingent on an agreement between Barcelona and Inter Miami or during the winter when his contract ends. This significant return would also offer Messi an excellent opportunity to prepare for the 2026 World Cup, where he is expected to participate.
However, there’s another scenario we brought up in January. Leo Messi reportedly has an offer to extend his contract for another two years, and one might think accepting it would shut the door to his Barcelona return. But that’s not the case at all.
Should Messi decide to renew his contract, he will have a clause allowing him to be loaned to another club during the league break from November to March. Of course, the clubs could negotiate for a more extended stay in Europe, potentially allowing Messi to finish the season there.
Examples of other players like Thierry Henry and Zlatan Ibrahimović, who returned to their former clubs under similar conditions, illustrate that this scenario is indeed plausible.
