Mike Maignan caught the attention of Chelsea as a potential transfer target this summer. While Milan was open to the idea of selling the goalkeeper due to ongoing negotiations over a new contract, the deal did not materialise. Maignan has been seeking a significant wage increase, and the 2024/2025 season didn’t exactly highlight him as an irreplaceable asset for the team. Over the years, the Frenchman established himself as a defensive cornerstone for the Serie A giants, yet his recent performances have been less stellar.

With Maignan’s contract running until 2026, Chelsea saw this as leverage to avoid offering an exorbitant transfer fee. Milan initially valued the player at around 30 million euros, a sum deemed too high by The Blues. Despite engaging in discussions, both parties failed to reach an agreement, prompting the Premier League side to withdraw their interest in finalising the move.

The decision has now been made by Milan to keep Maignan at the club. All indications point to the fact that the goalkeeper will remain at San Siro for another season, even if no new deal is struck and he eventually departs as a free agent in 2026.

“Mike Maignan will stay with us for another season. There was interest from a Premier League club, but we couldn’t reach an agreement. We decided to keep him for the upcoming campaign. You never know what could happen in the market, but for now, we want him to stay,” said Rossoneri sporting director Igli Tare.
