Marc Guehi had hoped to leave Crystal Palace during this transfer window and make the move to Anfield. Liverpool expressed a strong interest in securing the player’s services and worked extensively towards it.

However, Crystal Palace made it clear they would only sell their star defender if they could secure a high-quality replacement. As this plan fell through, discussions around Guehi’s transfer temporarily stalled.

The 25-year-old defender’s current contract with Crystal Palace runs until mid-2026, and there are no signs of an extension in sight. This has fueled widespread speculation about his departure.

Guehi’s contract situation has attracted significant attention from major clubs such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester City. Despite this, Liverpool remains the frontrunner, as the England international reportedly favours a move to the Reds.

According to “The Times,” Liverpool still intends to bring Guehi to the club, but they are unwilling to pay a transfer fee. They plan to secure him only once his contract with Crystal Palace expires. This means the defender is unlikely to make the switch during the winter transfer window.

This approach by Liverpool involves a significant gamble. With several top clubs vying for Guehi’s signature, one of them could make a move in January. If this happens, Crystal Palace might opt to sell him during the mid-season window, securing at least some financial return before his contract runs out.
