FC Barcelona is increasingly prioritizing the signing of Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid. The Argentine forward is being considered as a natural heir to Robert Lewandowski, whose time at the club appears to be gradually nearing its conclusion. While Lewandowski’s contract runs until June 30, 2026, it remains uncertain whether it will be extended further.
Julian Alvarez has been in remarkable form in recent weeks in La Liga. A hat-trick against Rayo Vallecano, followed by a brace in the Madrid derby has propelled him into the spotlight of the footballing world in Spain. Club president Joan Laporta views Alvarez as the perfect candidate to lead the team’s attack once Lewandowski departs.
However, Barcelona continues to face significant financial hurdles. The club’s economic struggles in recent years are well-documented, posing challenges for their transfer market endeavors. Despite these setbacks, President Joan Laporta maintains an optimistic outlook and is determined to bring a high-caliber star to bolster the squad.
To convince Atletico Madrid, FC Barcelona will need to secure a minimum of 100 million euros. The club plans to generate this sum through various initiatives, including sponsorship deals and substantial player sales. There’s also a possibility that one of Barcelona’s current players could be included as part of the deal for Julian Alvarez.
Alvarez is not the sole target on Barcelona’s radar. According to El Nacional, the club is also considering other top-tier names, such as Harry Kane and Erling Haaland, as potential additions to their squad.
