La Liga 2024/25: Real Madrid Hold On Against Alaves, 3-2

Last Updated on

Defending champions Real held on to defeat Deportivo Alaves 3-2 on Tuesday night at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid. After going up three goals midway through the match, Real Madrid conceded two late goals within one minute to give the visitors a chance. Ultimately, they were however able to keep their one goal lead and come away with three points.

Star striker Kylian Mbappe scored in his fifth consecutive match to continue his terrific start for his new squad. The 25-year-old now has seven goals in nine appearances this season for Real, including six in his last seven matches.

Lucas Vazquez got Real off to a hot start, scoring inside the first minute to put their opponents on the back foot. Mbappe found the back of the net towards the end of the first half when he was able to finish after being set up by Jude Bellingham. The combination of Bellingham and Mbappe almost had a goal in the 23rd minute but the forward had his strike ruled out for offside.

Rodrygo added a third just after the break to have his team up 3-0 and it seemed as if there would be no hopes of coming back. Deportivo didn’t give up though, as Casrlos Benavídez pulled a goal back in the 85th minute. Kike Garcia then added a second just a minute later to setup a nervy finish but the home team was able to hang on and come away with the win.

Despite the victory, Real Madrid are still in second place in the standings behind Barcelona who have played one less game. Alaves are expected to fall down the standings as more matchday 7 fixtures take place but are currently in 8th place on 10 points.

Next up for Real Madrid will be Atletico Madrid early next week. Alaves will go on to face Getafe at home on Saturday.

Sevilla Beat Real Valladolid 2-1 For Second Win This Season

Chidera Ejuke struck the game-winning goal in the 85th minute to help Sevilla beat Real Valladolid last night and jump up the La Liga table to 12th place. Ejuke was originally planned to be rested but came off the bench late to give his side the victory.

Sevilla was able to take the lead just before half-time when David Torres turned the ball into his own net for an own goal. It came via a Dodi Lukebakio low-driven cross which was inadvertently pushed by Torres past his keeper.

Kike Perez however equalized in the 55th minute to put the match back on even ground. Perez finished cleverly after latching on to a Mario Martin cut-back.

Sevilla tried hard to push for the win but couldn’t quite manage to get one past Karl Hein who made a couple of spectacular saves. Finally, Ejuke came on late in the game and drove across the edge of the box before placing the ball into the bottom corner for his first goal.

Marcao received a red card in the last minute of regulation after accumulating two yellow cards for a heavy foul. Still, Sevilla was able to keep their 2-1 lead and secure their second victory of the season.

Sevilla will look to continue their form when they play Athletic Club on Sunday at Estadio de San Mamés in Bilbao.

Valencia Draws In Scoreless Match Against Osasuna

There were no goals at Mestalla as Valencia were unable to build on their victory over Girona from the weekend, drawing with Osasuna 0-0. Dani Gomez had a couple of chances to put his team ahead but Osasuna goalkeeper Sergio Herrera was able to keep his team in the game.

Sevilla dropped to 17th in the La Liga standings after the draw with only one win in their first seven games. Osasuna are in 7th with three wins, two draws and 2 losses. Valencia will have a chance to try and pick up their second win of the season against Real Sociedad this weekend.
