Real Madrid opened their Champions League campaign on a high note. In the first group stage match, Los Blancos had to come from behind but managed a victory against Olympique Marseille (2-1).

Both goals were scored from penalties, expertly converted by Kylian Mbappe. Notably, the squad featured two players making their return from injuries, Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga.

Despite being available, neither player stepped onto the pitch during the Marseille game. Head coach Xabi Alonso opted against rushing them back into action. However, during a press conference, he revealed when they might feature again. “Camavinga and Bellingham are back. They’re ready to play this coming weekend,” he stated. Real Madrid is set to host Espanyol on Saturday (September 20).

Bellingham’s rapid recovery has been particularly surprising. Initially, it was suggested that the English midfielder would not return until mid-October. It’s worth noting that following the FIFA Club World Cup, he underwent shoulder surgery.

Last season, Bellingham made 58 appearances, recording 15 goals and 15 assists. Real Madrid secured his signing in the summer of 2023 from Borussia Dortmund for a staggering 127 million euros. His contract with the Spanish giants extends until June 30, 2029.
