It looks like a Lukaku might play in the Dutch Eredivisie next season. Well, not Romelu, but rather Jordan Lukaku. Romelu’s younger brother is currently undergoing a trial with the newly promoted team.
Jordan Lukaku (30) has been without a club since October of last year, following his stint with Turkish side Adanaspor. The left-back is aiming to revive his footballing career and sees the Netherlands as the place to do it. This week, he joined FC Volendam, which is holding a training camp in Zeeland, for a two-day trial period.
FC Volendam is still searching for a second left-back to provide competition for Yannick Leliendal. This was confirmed recently by technical director Patrick Busby in a conversation with Voetbal International. If the trial goes well, Lukaku could be the one to fill that opening.
During Wednesday’s friendly match against the Regioteam Schouwen-Duiveland, which ended in a 1-3 victory, Lukaku did not appear on the pitch but was present at the facility, dressed in FC Volendam training gear. At first glance, he didn’t seem to be in peak physical condition just yet.
Like his brother Romelu, Lukaku came through the Anderlecht academy. Throughout his career, he has played for clubs like KV Oostende, Lazio, FC Antwerp, Vicenza, Ponferradina, and Adanaspor. He has previously described his time in Turkey to Belgian media as a “nightmare.”
