For the Madrid club, this transfer necessitates a swift search for a replacement who can fill the gap left by the former Chelsea player and stabilise the midfield. Club officials at Estadio Metropolitano are currently reviewing several transfer options.
According to reports from the Spanish daily “MARCA,” Atletico Madrid has shown significant interest in Joao Gomes from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Diego Simeone reportedly views the 24-year-old Brazilian as a perfect addition to strengthen his squad.
The midfielder, who has represented Brazil 10 times at the international level, has also caught the attention of Manchester United and SSC Napoli. His market valuation is estimated at 40-50 million euros, indicating intense competition among clubs to secure his signature.
Joao Gomes has been showcasing his talent in the Wolverhampton Wanderers jersey since January 2023, having joined the team from CR Flamengo for nearly 20 million euros. Flamengo was also where he began his football journey.
This season, he has featured in 24 matches and recorded one assist. The 24-year-old’s current contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers extends until June 30, 2030, and includes an option to further extend the agreement for an additional year.
