FC Barcelona, after seven gameweeks in La Liga, stands at the top of the table and, alongside Elche, remains undefeated on Spanish soil. However, the Spanish champions have recently faced a bitter setback in the Champions League. In their clash against PSG (1-2), Hansi Flick’s squad faltered under late-game pressure, conceding a decisive goal by Goncalo Ramos in the final minute of the match.

At the same time, the club continues to strategise future transfers. According to the newspaper “Sport,” the Catalan giants are closely monitoring 19-year-old central defender Gonçalo Oliveira of Benfica Lisbon. The Portuguese youngster has been earning high praise in his homeland for months and is increasingly being linked with Europe’s top football clubs as a potential addition.

Currently, Oliveira plays for Benfica’s reserve team, though recent weeks have seen him train under Jose Mourinho with the senior squad on multiple occasions. His progression has caught the attention of Barcelona’s scouts, and consequently, this topic surfaced during a recent informal meeting between Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, and the player’s representatives. The discussion revolved around Oliveira’s profile, attributes, and long-term potential.

Oliveira is under contract with Benfica until June 2027. As a left-footed central defender, he embodies a highly sought-after profile in the transfer market. The Eagles’ academy graduate has already debuted for Portugal’s U21 national team, appearing in two matches so far.
