Real Madrid plans to use the summer as an opportunity to refresh its squad. David Alaba and Dani Carvajal are set to depart the club after this season, and the future of several other players remains uncertain.

Among those in question is Fran Garcia. A product of Real Madrid’s academy, Garcia returned to Santiago Bernabeu from Rayo Vallecano in 2023. However, he has struggled to cement a solid spot within the squad.

This season has only added to the challenges, with the Spanish defender making 23 appearances in all competitions but spending most of his time overshadowed by others competing for the left-back position.

While Garcia hasn’t performed poorly, he hasn’t delivered the kind of performances that could alter his standing in the team. His lack of consistent game time has also reportedly hampered his growth as a player.

According to AS, there’s a prevailing belief at Real Madrid that the defender is poised to move on after this season concludes. Notably, a similar outcome was close to occurring in January, though Florentino Perez reportedly blocked the transfer.

Garcia’s limited role is unlikely to change, with the coaching staff confirming he won’t see more playing time in the second half of the season. His future at Real Madrid is further complicated by the club’s plans to sign a new left-back.
