The first round of the 2023 FIBA World Cup is now complete and the second round is underway for the 16 teams that advanced. All second-round games will take place in three host cities; Manila, Jakarta and Okinawa between September 1st and September 3rd.
Second-Round Groups

Group K: Slovenia, Germany, Australia, Georgia

In the second round, each team will play two games with the teams from the opposite group that they didn’t play against in the first round. Results from the teams’ first-round will be carried over to their record. The top 2 teams from the four groups will advance to the quarter finals.
After the second round there is a scheduled one-day break on September 4th as teams from Okinawa and Jakarta head to Manila for the knockout stage. Teams who did not qualify for the second-round will play a classification round for team placement and qualification for the Olympics.
First Round Recap
As expected, tournament favorites USA were undefeated in the first-round as they beat Greece, New Zealand quite easily. Team Canada also won all three of their games and looked like the second best side in the tournament. The other teams that won their group were Dominican Republic, Serbia, Lithuania, Germany, Slovenia and Spain.
Tournament hosts, Philippines, had a disappointing first round, losing all three of their games and finishing last in Group A. France also had a shocking first-round exit losing to both Canada and Latvia to end up in third place in Group H.

Top Performers
Team USA’s Anthony Edwards had a solid first round, averaging 16.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists in just over 20 minutes of play. He had an exceptional game against Ivory Coast where he scored 13 points in just the first quarter and 22 in total.
As expected, NBA All-Star Luka Doncic has been dominating for Team Slovenia. He averages a tournament-high 30 points per a game, along with eight rebounds and seven assists.
Even without 2-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic, Team Serbia has been undefeated for far. This has been mainly due to fellow Serbian Nikola Jovic who has been shooting over 70% from the field, averaging 17 points. Shooting guard Bogdan Bogdanovic has also been big for Serbia, scoring 18 points a game and shooting over 40% from three.
