English Premier League 2024: Transfer News

Last Updated on

The transfers have been coming in by the numbers in the English Premier League, as teams look to strengthen their sides before the start of the new season. Let’s take a look at the latest transfer news and what to expect in the coming months.

Tottenham Sign Yang Min-Hyuk From Gangwon FC

The 18-year-old Yang Min-Hyuk will join Tottenham in a five year deal that will run until 2030. The South korean youth player has scored eight goals in his 25 matches at Gangwon, netting his first in March to become the youngest K league scorer since 2013.

Totten ham have a history of signing South Korean players, including current captain Son Heung-min and Lee Young-pyo.

It should be noted that Yang will remain with his K League team Gangwon for the rest of their season and only join up with Tottenham in January.

Southampton Close To Deal With Brereton Diaz

Southampton are expected to close a deal with Spanish side Villareal for forward Ben Brereton for a reported £7m.  The 25-year-old moved to Villa last summer, leaving Blackburn after 5 years of service.

The Chilean born Diaz, found it difficult to make a serious contribution in La Liga, failing to score in his 20 appearances for Villareal. He started in only 6 of those 20 appearances.

Diaz had much more success when he joined Sheffield United on loan in January and scored six times in 14 Premier League appearances. This didn’t however stop the team from being relegated at the end of last season.

Southampton went the other direction, getting promoted back to the Premier League last season after winning the Championship play-offs. They will be without a key player from last year’s campaign in Che Adams.

Southampton have also  agreed to sign Sao Paulo forward Juan and left-back Wellington. Both players are expected to move when their contracts in Brazil expire in January 2025.

Chelsea Pick Up Jorgensen and Anselmino

Chelsea have been busy this offseason, picking up Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen and Boca Juniors defender Aaron Anselmino.

The 22-year-old Jorgensen required a £20.7m fee and is expected to sign a seven-year contract until 2031. Jorgensen will likely be the club’s first option in net, which puts Djordje Petrovic’s future in doubt. Robert Sanchez was injured most of last season but will likely slot in as the second choice.

Jorgensen should  join up with Chelsea for their tour of the US, where they will face Celtic, Club America, Manchester City and Real Madrid.

The other addition to the team was centre-back Anselmino who cost 15.6m but will go back on loan to Boca Juniors until at least January. At only 19 years of age, he is regarded by many as a prospect for the future, similar to Kendry Paez and Estevao Willian.

Anselmino is also expected to sign a seven-year contract until 2031 but Chelsea can only take the transfer fee for both players over five years in their accounts. The two signing take their total in summer spending to an estimated £110m.

Everton Sign Jesper Lindstrom From Napoli

Everton has signed Napoli midfielder Jesper Lindstrom on loan with an option to make the move permanent in 2025. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed by either club but reports say Everton paid around 3 million euro in a loan fee.

The Danish pro joined Napoli from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in 2023 and has made 29 appearances for the Italian club. He has also been capped 16 times by his country.

Lindstrom started in Eintracht Frankfurt’s Europa League final victory over the Rangers in 2022, scoring 12 goals in 57 Bundesliga games. Known for being a versatile midfielder, he failed to score in his first season in Italy and didn’t get much in terms of game time towards the end of the season.

Everton has also made deals for forward Iliman Ndiaye from Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille on a five-year contract this summer.
