Liverpool FC might bid farewell to Darwin Nunez this summer. According to “TEAMtalk,” the club from Anfield Road is open to selling the Uruguayan striker, with the Saudi club Al Hilal being the leading contender for his signature. While there is also interest from clubs in the Premier League, including Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest, a move to Saudi Arabia seems the most probable due to financial considerations.
The 25-year-old striker was a key player under Jurgen Klopp. However, this season under Arne Slot, he has struggled to find his form. So far, he has scored only five goals and provided three assists in the Premier League and has missed the last two league matches. This has only fueled speculation about his future.
Liverpool paid Benfica Lisbon 85 million euros for Nunez and aims to recoup some of that investment. Al Hilal is preparing for participation in the Club World Cup and plans to finalise the transfer before the tournament. The Saudi club can also offer Nunez significantly higher wages than he currently earns in England. Although Atletico Madrid had shown interest in the striker earlier, they are unable to meet Liverpool’s asking price.
