FC Barcelona entered the summer transfer window with a clear objective to strengthen their attacking lineup. For an extended period, it seemed likely that Nico Williams would become the newest addition to the Catalan club.

However, the Spanish player chose to remain in Bilbao, forcing the Blaugrana to explore alternative options. In recent days, their focus has reportedly shifted to Marcus Rashford of Manchester United.

Barcelona’s management has already reached an agreement with the Red Devils for a loan deal, which includes a purchase option set at around 30 million euros. The player himself is eager to join Hansi Flick’s squad, leaving only the completion of the necessary formalities to finalise the move.

According to Sky Sports, as part of the loan deal, FC Barcelona has agreed to cover Marcus Rashford’s full salary. Including bonuses, this amounts to approximately 430,000 euros per week, a significant strain on the Blaugrana’s finances, especially given the club’s ongoing economic challenges. A slight upside for Barcelona is that Rashford has consented to a 15% salary reduction.

However, it appears that the Englishman’s lucrative contract complicates his registration with the league. To create space for their new striker, Barcelona may be compelled to sell or loan out another player from their current roster.
