Chelsea out of the Picture: Fermin to Remain at Barcelona

Chelsea recently expressed interest in Fermin Lopez, who currently holds an uncertain spot in Barcelona’s squad. While Hansi Flick holds the young talent in high regard, he primarily sees Lopez as a supplementary player rather than a core member of his starting eleven.

At just 22 years old, Lopez’s unique playing style is a rarity in Catalonia, making his departure unlikely. However, his future with the reigning league champions was momentarily in doubt as the Blues pitched a larger role for him in their team.

From the outset, Flick remained confident that Fermin would reject Chelsea’s advances and stay with the club. Although Barcelona had no intention of letting the player go, they did set a valuation at around €90 million.

Only an offer meeting that price could have potentially changed their minds. Chelsea, despite their ambitions, reportedly made only one bid, which was approximately €40 million, far below the desired figure.

While Fermin did contemplate his options, he never formally requested a transfer from Barcelona. According to “Mundo Deportivo,” the midfielder has now firmly committed to staying with the club through the 2025/2026 season. The idea of joining Chelsea may have been appealing, but he opted to continue his development in familiar surroundings rather than seek opportunities elsewhere.

A product of Barcelona’s academy, Lopez has participated in two matches this season. Over the course of his career so far, he has accumulated 90 appearances for the team, recording an impressive tally of 19 goals and 11 assists in that time.
