The Bundesliga has seen a number of key acquisitions this summer that could lead to some big changes come th 2024/25 season. The league is set to begin on the 23rd of August and will run to mid may of next year. Listed below are some of the latest pickups made this summer transfer window in the league.

Brazilian Defender Yan Couto Sign With Borussia Dortmund

Brazilian right-back, Yan Couto, has officially transferred from Manchester City to Borussia Dortmund on loan. The agreement includes an initial loan period, followed by a mandatory purchase clause valued at €30 million.

The 22-year-old initially signed with Manchester City in 2020 from Brazilian club Coritiba for £5 million. He failed to make a first-team appearance for City however. Instead he spent three full seasons on loan at Spanish side Girona, who are owned by the City Football Group. He has also spent a season at Portuguese club Sporting Braga during the 2021/22 season, making 42 appearances for them.

His last season at Girona was one of his best, as he played an integral part in their surprise third place finish in La Liga. The position qualified the team for the Champions League for the first time ever in club history.

Overall, Couto had made a total of 95 appearances for Girona, scoring five goals and assisting for 17 more across all competitions in that time.

Leverkusen Signs Martin Terrier From Rennes

French forward Martin Terrier signed with Leverkusen for the next five seasons for a reported cost of 22 million euros this offseason. The 27-year-old lands with the reigning German champions after playing with Rennes for the last four seasons, scoring 46 goals in 111 appearances. His last two seasons have been weighed down by an anterior cruciate ligament injury to his right knee.

Terrier made his debut with Lille and moved to Olympique Lyon in 2018, after a loan spell at Strasbourg for one season. He then moved to Rennes where he played his best football and even participated in the Champions League.

Leverkusen also made another signing from Rennes this offseason of 19-year-old French center back Jeanuel Belocian.

Bayern Munich Pickup Midfielder Joao Palhinha

Bayern Munich agreed to sign the Fulham midfielder João Palhinha in a deal worth up to €56m. Palhinha was close to moving to Munich last year but the deal broke down on the final day of the transfer window.

The 28-year-old joined Fulham from Sporting Lisbon in 2022, for an estimated fee of £17m. He was instantly able to become a key player on the team, winning the club’s player of the year award in his opening season at Craven Cottage. Palhinha made 79 appearances in total over two seasons at Fulham, scoring 8 goals in the process.

Bayern Munich finished third in the Bundesliga last season, which was 18 points behind the champions, Bayer Leverkusen. They were then eliminated by Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Champions League and failed to win the German Cup, making it one of their worst seasons in the past couple of decades.

Going forward, the team will be looking to Palhinha to play a big part of the team’s offense as they look to regain the top spot in the league.

Borussia Sign Serhou Guirassy from Stuttgart

Guinean international, Serhou Guirassy finally completed his transfer to Borussia Dortmund for a reported €17.5million release clause in his contract. The 28-year-old strike scored 28 goals in the Bundesliga last season in just 28 appearances.

The move had previously been in doubt due to a medical at the beginning of July which raised concerns about a knee injury that Guirassy suffered in June. After further examination though, Dortmund is satisfied that he will not be requiring surgery and will only need a few weeks of recovery. It is expected that the team will have the striker by the start of the season.
