In Madrid, a meeting was held regarding the potential transfer of Erling Haaland. According to the SPORT daily, representatives of Victor Font’s team engaged in talks with Manchester City officials during the English club’s visit to the Spanish capital for their Champions League clash against Real Madrid.
The Four Seasons Hotel served as the venue for a discussion involving Font’s staff members, Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano, and Sporting Director Hugo Viana. A key focus of the conversation was exploring a preferential agreement for Barcelona to potentially secure the Norwegian striker in the future.
Victor Font, speaking with SER’s program “Què T’hi Jugues,” clarified that acquiring Haaland in the near term is virtually impossible. Similar reports from the Fichajes portal indicate that the Norwegian is in no rush to make a move. It’s worth noting that Real Madrid also remains in pursuit of Haaland’s signature.
“Haaland is one of the top central forwards globally. Bringing him on board in the short term isn’t feasible, especially as he extended his contract just last year,” Font remarked.
At the same time, the Barcelona presidential candidate pointed out that such long-term contracts are seldom fulfilled to their very end.
“I firmly believe that ten-year contracts like these are rarely honoured in full. Hence, we must be ready to seize the moment when an opportunity for such a transfer arises,” he added.
The Norwegian striker has long been on Barcelona’s radar. Despite recently extending his contract with Manchester City until 2034, his name remains a part of the Catalan club’s long-term strategic vision in sports. Font also acknowledged that discussions with Manchester City may resume in the near future, particularly after Barcelona’s upcoming presidential elections conclude.
For now, Barcelona is not engaging in direct negotiations with the player himself. However, within Haaland’s circle is Carles Planchart, who maintains a strong and positive relationship with the Norwegian forward.
