AFCON 2022 qualifiers results

The 2022 AFCON was initially scheduled for 2021, following the tradition of a biennial competition. It was also shifted to an odd year so that it doesn’t clash with the FIFA World Cup. But due to unforeseen circumstances, it couldn’t happen in 2021 and was postponed to 2022.

The qualification was open to the 54 countries in Africa including the host country Cameroon. Though Eritrea and Somalia choose not to participate bringing the countries playing the qualifiers to 52 teams.

The 52 teams were divided into two groups, the first group had 44 teams and the second group had 8 teams. The second group of 8 teams had to play a preliminary round of two-legged matches to bring out 4 winning teams. The first group of teams were seeded by their FIFA rankings and placed in 4 pots of 12 teams, with the final pot having 8 teams. The 4 winning teams from the preliminary round now completed the final pot.

These teams were now divided into qualifying groups of 4 teams from Group A to Group L and had to play the qualifying matches from October 2019 to June 2021. The first two teams from each group qualified for the final tournament. So there will be 24 teams playing in the final tournament in Cameroon in January.

Watching the African Cup of Nations will be fun and exciting, but you want to know what will be even more fun and exciting? Betting on it. There will be over 50 matches played throughout the tournament, so there will be enough matches to bet on.

The African Cup of Nations has been won more times by a select few countries like Egypt, Cameroon, Ghana, Algeria, Nigeria, and Ivory Coast. However, other countries are stepping up their games and can cause a lot of upsets, especially in the group stages – just like in the 2019 tournament where the hosts Egypt and defending champions Cameroon were eliminated in the group stage.

So there will be a lot of games with higher odds for the underdogs that can be very profitable to bet on. You can also consider betting on outright events such as the winner of the tournament, highest goal scorer, highest assists and other final events.
