AFCON group results 2024

The AFCON 2024 will kick off in January 2024 and the AFCON fixtures are out. 24 national teams will fight to be crowned champions of Africa. While the AFCON results are currently unavailable, we will provide predictions for each of the six AFCON groups.

AFCON Group A

The first group consists of the host nation and two-time winners Ivory Coast, three-time winners Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau. The Elephants and the Super Eagles are clear favourites to advance to the next round of the competition. While Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau are underdogs, they cannot be underestimated as they pose an equally fair threat.

AFCON Group B

Egypt, Ghana, Cape Verde and Mozambique lock heads in group B for spots in the knock-out round. Egypt, the most successful team in the tournament’s history, should stroll out of this group with Ghana. Although Mozambique and Cape Verde have a few trump cards up their sleeves, it should not be enough to shake the Pharaohs and Black stars.

AFCON Group C

Defending champions Senegal will hope to retain the trophy when they face Cameroon, Gambia and Guinea in group C. Sadio Mane’s Senegal and Vicent Aboubakar’s Cameroon are clear favourites to advance to the knock-out stage. The Indomitable Lions and the Lions of Teranga should outclass Gambia and Guinea comfortably.

AFCON Group D

2019 AFCON champions Algeria will target a first-place finish in the group with Angola, Mauritania, and Burkina Faso. Riyad Mahrez and Said Benrahma’s Algeria have the squad depth and individual brilliance to emerge as group winner. We believe AFCON 2013 finalist Burkina Faso has enough quality to edge over Angola and Mauritania.

AFCON Group E

With Mali, Tunisia, South Africa and Namibia, this is one of the toughest groups of the Africa Cup of Nations 2024. Eagles of Carthage Tunisia will enter the group as favourites and hope to recreate their 2004 magic where they lifted the trophy. We believe Yives Bissouma’s Mali has enough quality to outclass the Bafana Bafana of South Africa and Namibia.

AFCON Group F

Morocco will confidently enter the AFCON group stage, knowing they are clear favourites to be group winner ahead of Tanzania, Zambia and Congo. The North African side represented the continent at the World Cup and finished a record-breaking fourth-place. Zambia will hope to recreate their 2012 form, which saw them lift the trophy as an underdog, and edge over Congo and Tanzania.

It is important to note that the Africa Cup of nations knock-out round will feature 16 teams. This means the top two teams from each group and four best third-placed teams.

AFCON Qualifiers Results

AFCON qualification saw 54 teams fight for a place in the upcoming Nations Cup in Ivory Coast. 48 teams made it into the next round, and were divided into 12 groups, four national teams per group.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau qualified from Group A with 15 and 13 points, respectively, above São Tomé and Sierra Leone. Group B saw Togo and Eswanti lose their places at the AFCON finals to Burkina Faso and Cape Verde.

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon booked their place at the main event after thrashing Burundi 3:0 to top group. Namibia will debut at the AFCON after confirming a second-place finish ahead of Kenya in the same qualification group.

North African giants Egypt, Algeria and Tunisia have 10 AFCON titles between them, progressed from the qualifiers as leaders of D, F and J, respectively. West African sides Mail, Ghana and current holders Senegal made it from the qualification round to the main event at Ivory Coast.

What Were The AFCON 2022 Results?

AFCON 2021 actually took place in January 2022, with Cameroon hosting the event. Algeria were the defending champions, but they failed to progress past the group stage.

Burkina Faso were the surprise package. They produced a string of superb AFCON results, which saw them storm all the way to the semi-finals, where they lost to Senegal. Host nation Cameroon played Egypt in the other semi-final game, which saw Egypt win on penalty shootouts after a goalless draw after 120 minutes.

That set up a Senegal vs Egypt final, allowing Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah and his former Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane to face each other. However, the game also ended goalless before Senegal won 4-2 in the penalty shootout.

These AFCON results saw Senegal crowned AFCON champions for the first time. Having already qualified for the 34th edition in Ivory Coast, Senegal will hope to defend the title. They could join Egypt, Ghana, and Cameroon as the fourth country to win the competition in successive years.
