A Portuguese apprenticeship

After trialling in Norway, Onyemaechi signed for Portuguese club Feirense, spending several seasons developing across the country’s divisions. A loan and then permanent move to Boavista gave him his Primeira Liga breakthrough, where he became a regular left-back.

His steady performances in Portugal’s top flight, including his first senior goals, attracted attention from bigger clubs and earned him a step up in level and ambition.

Silverware with Olympiacos

In January 2025 Onyemaechi joined Greek giants Olympiacos, quickly settling into their defence. He has since collected domestic silverware and posted some of the highest performance ratings among left-backs in the Greek league.

Alongside senior figures such as former captain William Troost-Ekong, he has become part of Nigeria’s defensive core. Olympiacos has given him the stage to combine trophies with regular European football.
