Career: From Enyimba to European records

Enyeama built his reputation with a dominant Enyimba side before moving to Israel and then France, where he became one of Lille’s all-time greats.

African glory with Enyimba

Enyeama made his name with Enyimba Aba, winning consecutive Nigerian league titles and back-to-back CAF Champions League crowns in 2003 and 2004, earning the competition’s best goalkeeper award in successive seasons.

That success on the continental stage put him firmly in Nigeria’s plans and earned him a move abroad, first to Israel, where he starred for Bnei Yehuda and Hapoel Tel Aviv and won domestic honours.

Ligue 1 history with Lille

Enyeama joined Lille in 2011 and became a club legend. In the 2013-14 season he kept 11 consecutive Ligue 1 clean sheets and went 1,062 minutes without conceding, a record-setting run that made him the league’s goalkeeper of the season.

After his Lille spell ended, he had a brief association with Dijon before retiring in 2020. In 2023 the IFFHS named him the greatest African goalkeeper of all time.
