Alexander Isak, who joined Liverpool from Newcastle United last year for a record-breaking €145 million, has struggled to find his footing at Anfield. In 16 appearances, the Swedish striker has managed to score just three goals.
To make matters worse, he suffered a severe ankle injury and a fractured fibula in December. After undergoing surgery, Isak is expected to return only towards the end of the league campaign.
Reports from “El Nacional” suggest that the 26-year-old has asked his agents to explore options for leaving The Reds and reaching out to Barcelona. The Catalan club is actively scouting for a central striker.
Currently, coach Hansi Flick has Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres as his options. However, Torres’ form has been especially underwhelming, with the Spaniard failing to score since January.
Interestingly, Barcelona had previously shown interest in Isak but refrained from making an official offer. Now, the scenario could change, as the player himself appears eager for a transfer and views Barcelona as a team that perfectly aligns with his playing style.
Should Liverpool decide to part ways with Isak, they would likely demand a hefty transfer fee. The striker is tied to a contract at Anfield until June 2031.
Notably, Isak is no stranger to La Liga, having represented Real Sociedad in the past. During his time with the San Sebastian side, he played 132 matches and netted 44 goals.
