Fiorentina made headlines once more on Thursday evening, as they successfully eliminated their second consecutive Polish opponent in the UEFA Europa Conference League. The Serie A side initially overcame Jagiellonia Białystok, despite a surprising 4-2 loss at home to the Yellow-and-Reds.
Subsequently, when matched against Raków Częstochowa, Fiorentina emerged victorious in both legs, registering identical 2-1 scorelines. Following the matches, Nicolo Fagioli shared his thoughts on the team’s performance.
“It was a tough game, partly because the pitch wasn’t in great condition. It was genuinely hard to play proper football. Controlling the ball was difficult, so we had to rely on long passes. During the first half, we didn’t execute this well, and we started the second half poorly, conceding an early goal. However, we managed to regain control, dominate the game, and secure victory on challenging ground,” shared the midfielder, who has represented Italy seven times.
The Tuscan club appears to be hitting its stride, boasting three consecutive wins across all competitions. The 25-year-old midfielder also commented briefly on the team’s recent form:
“This season has been particularly demanding, with constant pressure on us in the league. Right now, we have a four-point cushion over Cremonese, which is crucial, but we can’t allow ourselves to relax. Nine matches remain, and we must keep distancing ourselves from the danger zone while climbing as high as possible in the Serie A standings. After that, we’ll shift our focus to the Europa Conference League as well,” emphasised Fagioli.
The team in purple aspires to secure a victory in European competitions. However, the player openly admitted that, as of now, Fiorentina’s primary focus is firmly on maintaining their position in Italy’s top football division.
“Of course, our ambition is to win the Conference League. Yet, our main priority at the moment is staying in Serie A. That is our most important objective right now. Nevertheless, this does not change the fact that in the Conference League, we aim to progress to the next stage and eliminate Crystal Palace,” the player emphasised.
Meanwhile, Fiorentina faces another demanding test this Sunday when they go head-to-head against Inter Milan. The player highlighted that matches like this in the Italian league require no additional motivation for anyone in the dressing room.
“There’s no need for extra motivation when it comes to facing Inter. It’s going to be a special game. Although we already played on Thursday, we’ll give it our all on Sunday to fight for more points,” the player assured.
Fagioli is a player who joined the Florence squad in July 2025. This season, he has participated in 36 matches, contributing two goals and three assists. Before his move to Fiorentina for over €13 million, the midfielder spent many years playing for Juventus.
