At the end of January, surprising news emerged from London. Raheem Sterling mutually terminated his contract with Chelsea, making him a free agent on the transfer market.
The 31-year-old had been with The Blues since 2022, taking a brief break in the 2024/2025 season to play for Arsenal. Prior to that, he represented two other top English clubs – Liverpool and Manchester City.
Finding a new club was far from challenging for Sterling. Reports indicated interest from Serie A clubs, including Napoli. However, the winger ultimately chose not to continue in one of Europe’s top five leagues, surprising many with his decision.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Sterling has opted for a rather unexpected destination, the Netherlands. The 82-time England international has signed with Feyenoord Rotterdam. In the Eredivisie, he will share the pitch with Jakub Moder.
It might take some time before fans see Sterling in action, though. He hasn’t played a single match this season, and last appeared in an official game on May 25, 2025, during Arsenal’s clash with Southampton on the final day of the Premier League season.
Sterling’s new team, Feyenoord, currently holds the second spot in the league standings. However, they trail league leaders PSV Eindhoven by a hefty 17 points, making their chances of claiming the Dutch title nearly impossible.
The coach of the team is Robin van Persie.
