A single decision has sparked what can be described as a proverbial earthquake in Saudi Arabia. Just a few days ago, Karim Benzema announced his departure from Al-Ittihad.

Reportedly, the reason behind his choice was an “insulting” contract extension offer. The French star’s current deal is set to expire in June, and while the former Saudi Pro League champion proposed a renewal, it lacked a guaranteed salary, a term the 38-year-old could not accept.

In light of Benzema’s imminent departure, Al-Ittihad has started the search for a player who could step into his shoes. According to sources like Fichajes, their focus has shifted to Lamine Yamal.

The outlet reports that the young prodigy has become the primary target for the Saudis in the transfer market. Furthermore, Saudi league officials appear more than willing to spend lavishly on the FC Barcelona talent.

An enormous €300 million offer has reportedly been prepared, with hopes that Yamal would become the new face of the Saudi Pro League. However, the major obstacle lies in the fact that the player currently has no intention of leaving Barcelona or Europe.

Additionally, no negotiations are underway with the Catalan club, which has only been notified of the plan through Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. Barcelona learned of the attempt to lure the 18-year-old through his agent, Jorge Mendes.

Lamine Yamal is undoubtedly one of Barcelona’s brightest stars, and his performance this season underscores his immense potential. The young forward has played in 28 matches, scoring 13 goals and delivering 13 assists, cementing his place as one of the standout players for the team. His contract with the Catalan team is valid until June 2031.
