Real Madrid made just one signing this summer, Dean Huijsen, despite Xabi Alonso pushing for an additional central defender. A new defender may arrive next year, as the futures of David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger remain uncertain. Both players have contracts expiring in June, and renewal seems highly unlikely.

Months ago, Real Madrid initially considered transferring Ibrahima Konate. The plan was to capitalize on the fact that his contract with Liverpool is set to expire in just over six months, and negotiations for renewal weren’t progressing as the English club intended. The prospect of playing at Santiago Bernabeu intrigued the star, who delayed making a final decision about his future.

However, recent updates suggest that this notable transfer is now off the table. Real Madrid has reportedly opted against pursuing Konate, a decision that has already been communicated to Liverpool. This doesn’t rule out the arrival of another central defender in Madrid, but the club will focus on alternative candidates.

Real Madrid informed Liverpool of their waning interest in the Frenchman. This might be due to his underwhelming performances this season. Meanwhile, other names remain on Real’s wishlist, including Dayot Upamecano, Marc Guehi, and Nico Schlotterbeck.
