Leo Messi had to part ways with Barcelona in 2021 after being an integral part of the club since the very start of his career. The club faced severe financial difficulties, making it impossible to renew his contract.

Paris Saint-Germain seized the opportunity and signed the legendary player on a free transfer. Messi spent two years in Paris before making the move to the United States, where he joined Inter Miami. The Argentine continues to play for the MLS side to this day.

Speculation about Messi’s potential return to Barcelona has often surfaced, but there are no signs that such a reunion will actually happen. Now 38 years old, Messi is focusing on the immediate future, aiming to be in top form for next year’s World Cup. Despite his incredible success in Qatar, he remains hungry for more and hopes to achieve even greater milestones with the national team.

Still, there is a chance Messi could don the Barcelona jersey one more time. His departure in 2021 came as a shock, leaving fans without an opportunity to bid him farewell. The club is now planning to organize a farewell match for the Argentine star, something Joan Laporta has publicly confirmed. The president also highlighted the improvement in their relationship, which had deteriorated during Messi’s unexpected exit.

– We had a very good relationship with Messi, but it suffered when we couldn’t renew his contract. Since then, we’ve managed to rebuild some of that bond. I truly hope we can give him the grand tribute he deserves – explained Barcelona’s president.
