FC Barcelona has announced that Gavi will undergo surgery to address ongoing issues. The Spanish midfielder has been struggling with a meniscus problem in his right knee for some time, and despite conservative treatment, a surgical procedure has become necessary. The club confirmed that the procedure, an arthroscopy, will be performed under the supervision of Dr. Joan Carles Monllau.
The decision to operate was made after extensive medical tests and physical evaluations, which concluded that surgery would offer the best chance for a full recovery. In an official statement, Barcelona emphasised that further updates regarding the player’s condition will follow post-surgery. The primary goal of the operation is to expedite Gavi’s return to the field and to prevent potential complications in the future.
Preliminary estimates suggest that Gavi’s recovery period may last around five weeks. While the procedure is not considered highly invasive, it will still sideline the 21-year-old for a number of important matches. On a positive note, the current issue is unrelated to his previous, more severe injury to the same knee.
This development represents a significant setback for Barcelona’s midfield. Coach Hans Flick now faces the challenge of adapting his team to compete without a valuable squad member. Although Gavi hasn’t been a consistent starter as of late, his presence would undoubtedly have been beneficial during upcoming key matches, given the need for squad rotation.
